ICE BREAKER: What is a song or two, Christian or not, that you turn to for encouragement when you are stressed or anxious? Why?

SERMON DIGESTION: Your chance to reflect personally on the sermon.
  • How did the sermon personally impact you?
  • How were you encouraged, challenged, inspired?

DISCUSSION/STUDY:

We have concluded 6 weeks of teaching on the themes in Psalm 16. Look back over the psalm now. Which verse(s) or topics did God use in a new or special way in your life?

This Sunday’s final sermon in ‘The Pursuit of Pleasure’ series focused on living a Gospel-centered life. What is your understanding of the meaning of that term: “Gospel-centered living”?
  • How does Psalm 16:8 present the principle and the promise of Gospel-centered living?
  • Outside of the Gospel, what other “goggles” do people interpret or respond to their lives through?
  • Have you ever used the Gospel to help you respond to a fear, circumstance, failure, etc? If yes, how did you do so?

The RSBC family is going to marinate in a Gospel-centered mindset by memorizing Romans 5:1-11 over the next 6 weeks.
  • Go to this passage in your Bible.
  • Use the two Gospel application questions that Pastor Thomas presented to dig into the verses together.
  • What does the passage say is true for me in the Gospel? (there are more than 10 Gospel truths in these verses)
  • What difference should/could that truth make in my everyday life? (think specifically in your applications – money, relationships, fears, doubts, motivation, temptations, emotions, use of words, church attitudes, etc.)

What do you have in place to cultivate a Gospel-centered mindset so that peace and pleasure in God can secure you on an ongoing basis? For suggestions visit the recent RSBC blog post titled ‘Gospel-Centered’ and find 6 easy practices. Choose two or three you want to try out.

Close in prayer for yourself or those you are studying with.
