ICE BREAKER: Who have you known that made following Jesus look attractive? How did they do so?

SERMON DIGESTION: Your chance to reflect personally on the sermon.
  • How did the sermon personally impact you?
  • How were you encouraged, challenged, inspired?

DISCUSSION/STUDY:

READ Titus 2:1-10.

How are these lifestyle characteristics more than just a list of demanding rules?
  • READ Titus 2:14 and 1 Peter 2:24. How do these verses give insight into the above question?

As members of the church, at different stages of life, live this way, what will happen according to the 3 verses below? Why is each verse's answer beneficial to those around us?
  • v.5b
  • v.8b
  • v.10b

What do you make of this claim that living  Jesus-honoring lives can make the Gospel attractive (remember what kind of society Crete was)?
  • How do we draw unbelievers to the Gospel and our Savior by the way we live?
  • What does your lifestyle reflect about your beliefs?

Paul gave instructions for five groups of people in addition to Titus. (Think of slaves as employees.)
  • Make a list: a) each group, b) what Paul told Titus to teach them, c) what challenges and temptations these verses suggest are faced by each group.
  • Find the group you belong to in v.1-10.
  • Which qualities do you need to learn?
  • How can you begin developing one of them this week?

Pastor Thomas’ stated Big Idea #2: Solo isn’t the goal. Blazing lives require interdependent discipleship.
  • How does this passage teach this Big Idea?

We human beings seem to be imitative by nature. We need models; they give us direction, challenge, and inspiration. Paul expected Titus and those in the church to mature into models which other Christians could follow.
  • How does this passage teach us to view those within our church who are: older than us? Younger than us?
  • How can you help an older or younger Christian this week?

Pray that God will show you specific ways to make the Gospel attractive to unbelievers and to follow through in helping an older or young Christian this week.
